''Best Film'' to Serve as French Film Festival Grand Finale

Released: 04/23/2007

A French thriller, “Cachè/Hidden,” will serve as the grand finale of the Tournées French Film Festival on Tuesday, April 24.

The festival moves to downtown Alexandria for its finale showing in the Coughlin Saunders Performing Arts Center. A reception at 6:30 p.m. kicks off the finale with the movie to follow.

“Cachè” won Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival in 2005. It also won Best Director, Best Film and Best Actor (Daniel Auteuil) at the European Film Awards that same year. The Los Angeles Film Critics Association awarded it the Best Foreign Language Film in 2005.

The event is free and open to the public. The film will be in French with English subtitles.

For the second consecutive year, LSU Alexandria was one of 85 American universities awarded a grant by French American Cultural Exchange to host the festival celebrating contemporary French cinema. The film festival is supported by the Arts Council of Central Louisiana.

The Tournées Festival was introduced to encourage the distribution and viewing of contemporary French films at educational institutions. Some 250,000 students have attended the screenings over the past 10 years.
