Ms. LSU Alexandria Contestants Announced; Pageant This Saturday

LSU Alexandria will crown its 2007 Ms. LSUA on Saturday, April 14 in its annual pageant set to begin at 7 p.m. in the Barbara Brumfield Caffey Annex.

The winner of the pageant receives a Chancellor’s Scholarship of $1,000. As a representative of LSUA, Ms. LSUA’s duties include appearances at various campus functions, leading the Pledge of Allegiance at commencement and Honors Convocation and attending various community events as invited.

The pageant is open to part-time or full-time students who have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and have earned at least 12 credit hours. Contestants must also be an active member of one LSUA student organization.

This year’s contestants represent a variety of majors and hometowns.

Contestant Number One

Rita Nicole Davis of Glenmora is a sophomore nursing major. She is a member of Student Nurses Association, Student Government, the Speak Easy Communication Club and the LSU Alexandria Debate Team. Her platform topic is "Reach Out: Helping Struggling Youth Overcome Abusive Situations." Rita''s mentor is Robin Arnold.

Contestant Number Two

Terris Kay Rubenstein is a sophomore communication studies major from Alexandria. Terris currently serves as treasurer of the Speak Easy Communication Club and as president of the French Club. She is also a member of the Empty Space Players and Delta Chi Alpha. Terris''s platform topic is "Environmental Awareness: Recycle!" Her mentor is Dr. Doran O''Donnell.

Contestant Number Three

Jamie Caitlin Davis of Forest Hill is a junior majoring in nursing. Jamie is a member of the Speak Easy Communication Club. Her platform topic is "Cervical Cancer Awareness." Jamie''s mentor is Dr. Sandra Purifoy.

Contestant Number Four

Terry Gordy Guillory is a senior mathematics major from Pineville. Terry is currently serving as president of Lambda Tau Chi (Math Club) and vice president of Circle K. She is also a member of the LSU Alexandria OAKS, Spanish Club, Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana, and Mathematical Association of America. Her platform topic is "The Importance of Mathematics in Today''s Society." Terry''s mentor is Dr. Dorene Fox.

Contestant Number Five

Brandy Katrina Roberts is a sophomore elementary education major from Lecompte. She is a member of A+PEL (Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana), Circle K and Baptist Collegiate Ministries. Her platform topic is "Foundation for the Future: The Importance of a Positive Influence in the Life of a Child." Her mentor is Donna Odom-Lacaze.
