Continuing Education Announces March Courses, Free Forums

LSU Alexandria Continuing Education is offering a variety of non-credit courses to the community throughout March. Pre-registration is required for each.

Computer Basics – Intermediate and Internet: A basic operating systems course which covers the Taskbar, My Computer, the Desktop, Windows Explorer, changing settings, finding files, using Help, and moving, sizing, opening and closing Windows. Learn the basic functions of the Internet, connect to the Internet using a browser, communicate with others using e-mail, explore the features of the World Wide Web, examine various search engines, and understand terminology. A morning class and an evening class are offered from March 12 through March 22. Morning class will be held from 8:30-10:30 a.m. every Monday and Wednesday, and evening class will be held from 6-8 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Cost is $125 and includes text.

MS Access - Beginner: Would database management make your job easier? Do you want to learn more about Access? If you answered yes to either of these questions, come learn Access with us. 1-4 p.m. March 26 and March 28. Cost is $125 and includes text.

MS Excel - Beginner: Learn to create, format, modify and print Excel worksheets. You will learn to analyze your data by using named ranges and built-in functions. A morning class and an evening class are offered from March 26 through April 5. Morning class will be held from 8:30-10:30 a.m. every Monday and Wednesday, and evening class will be held from 6-8 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Cost is $140 and includes text.

MS PowerPoint: Skills covered in this course include: how to create a presentation; changing a presentation design; running a slideshow; how to insert clipart, pictures, organizational charts and graphics. 6-9 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday, March 19 & 21. Cost is $195 Tuition + $28 Book Fee.

Dancing: Come learn the two-step and the waltz with us! This course will introduce you to beginning dancing or help you perfect what you already know. Included will be some of the more popular social dances. PARTNER NOT REQUIRED! 7-8 p.m. every Tuesday March 6 through March 27. Cost is $50.

Guitar - Beginner: Learn the fundamentals of the guitar. An afternoon class and an evening class are offered. Evening class will be held Thursdays from March 8 through March 29 from 6-7:30 p.m. Afternoon class will be held Tuesdays from March 6 through March 27 from 12:30-2 p.m. Cost is $100.

Guitar - Advanced: Learn to adapt the skills of music reading, chord charts and classical guitar techniques for the performance of the various musical styles to include: classical, pop, jazz, blues and religious. An afternoon class and an evening class are offered. Both classes will be held on Thursdays March 8 through March 29. The evening class will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. The afternoon class will held from 12:30-2 p.m. Cost is $100.

Better Curb Appeal for your Front Yard: This class will teach the skills necessary to develop a landscape that will have high curb appeal and low maintenance. Thursday March 8 from 6-7:30 p.m. Cost $50.

Short-cuts for Low Maintenance Gardening: Participants will be given handouts, shown examples and educated in the many shortcut techniques that will make their gardening experience a pleasant one. Thursday March 15 from 6-7:30 p.m. Cost $50.

Delivering Quality Service: This course focuses on helping employees learn more about the kind of service that makes a postive, lasting impression on customers. Participants will learn about verbal and non-verbal communication skills as well as telephone skills. Thursday March 29 from 1-5 p.m. Cost $110.

How to Become an Event Planner: Want to learn how to get into the business of Event Planning from an experienced professional? Take this opportunity to learn exactly "what is" an event planner and get inside information on how to get started in the event planning business. Tuesday March 20 from 6-7:30 p.m. Cost $50.

Using Filters to Enhance Your Photographs: The easiest and most economical way to give your photographs that WOW look is to use filters. It''s a hands-on session that will be fun. Thursday March 1 from 6-7:30 p.m. Cost $50.

FREE FORUMS Learned Helplessness: Characteristics to look for in School-Aged Children: This free forum will discuss the characteristics associated with learned helplessness as well as the implications for practitioners. Monday, March 5 from 5-6:30 p.m.

BB King - Live at BB King''s Club: This free forum will be a CD/DVD preview party presented by Greg Gormanous. Music, videos and stories featuring the life and hits of BB King will be presented. Thursday March 15 from 5:30-7 p.m. at LSU Alexandria Downtown at the Alexandria Museum of Art.
