Health Psychology Forum Focuses on Organ and Tissue Donation

Released: 10/17/2006

Organ and tissue donation is the topic of this semester’s Health Psychology Forum presented by LSU Alexandria Behavioral and Social Sciences Department. The forum, which is open to the public, is set for Monday, October 23 at 12 p.m. in Coughlin Hall Auditorium on the LSUA campus.

The forum, co-sponsored by CHRISTUS St. Frances Cabrini Hospital and Rapides Regional Medical Center, will feature guest speakers Libbie Harris of Louisiana Organ and Procurement Agency and heart recipient Leslie Whitt of the Alexandria Zoo.

Understanding the benefits and challenges of organ and tissue donation helps open significant dialogues about health.

“Health and well-being pervade every facet of our work, family, and school lives,” said Dr. Greg Gormanous, chair of the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at LSUA. “Being knowledgeable about organ and tissue donation is an important way of facilitating health and well-being.”

The LSUA co-sponsors include the Psychology Club, PSI CHI Honor Society, Gamma Beta Phi, Rotaract Club, Student Government Association, and the departments of Nursing, Allied Health and Education. For more information about the Health Psychology Forum, contact Gormanous at 473-6469.
