Continuing education computer courses offered at LSU Alexandria

LSU Alexandria Continuing Education is offering a variety of computer courses to the community throughout the month of October. Pre-registration is required for each course.

Computer Basics – Beginner: Learn the difference between hardware and software, and become familiar with computer terminology and the parts of a computer. 6:00-8:00 p.m. every Tues. and Wed. from Oct. 10 through Oct. 18. Cost is $125.

Computer Basics – Intermediate & Internet: This basic operating system course covers topics such as the Taskbar; My Computer; the Desktop; Windows Explorer; and managing files. The course also teaches the basic functions of the Internet using a browser, and how to communicate with others using e-mail. 6:00-8:00 p.m. every Mon. & Wed. from Oct. 30 through Nov. 8. Cost is $125.

MS Excel – Beginner: This course will teach you how to create, format and modify worksheets; how to perform calculations; and analyze and present data. Three different class times are offered: 8:30-10:30 a.m.; 1:00-3:00 p.m.; or 6:00-8:00 p.m., on Mon., Tues., & Thurs. beginning Mon., Oct. 2. through Tues., Oct. 10. Cost is $150.

MS Excel – Advanced: This advanced course will teach you how to manage worksheets and workbooks; use decision-making tools; and develop applications using MS Excel. Three different class times are offered: 8:30-10:30 a.m.; 1:00-3:00 p.m.; or 6:00-8:00 p.m., on Mon., Tues., & Thurs., beginning Thurs., Oct. 12. through Mon., Oct. 23. Cost is $150.

MS Access – Beginner: This course will cover the basics of Access such as creating a database; organizing and retrieving data; and presenting and managing data. 1:30-4:30 p.m. on Tues., Oct. 17 & Thurs., Oct. 19. Cost is $195 plus a $35 book fee.

Internet Safety for the Family: This important course gives families the information and practical tools they need to stay safe online. Learn about protecting your computer and yourself while surfing on the Internet; windows updates; virus and spyware protection; Internet scams; and other online safety tools. 6:00-9:00 p.m. on Tues., Oct. 24 & Thurs., Oct. 26. Cost is $100.
