Continuing Education begins fall courses

LSU Alexandria Continuing Education is offering a variety of non-credit courses to the community beginning in September. Pre-registration is required for each course and a $10 non-refundable registration fee is required in addition to the course fee.

Computer Basics – Beginner: Learn the difference between hardware and software, and become familiar with computer terminology and the parts of a computer. 6:00-8:00 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday from Sept. 11 through Sept. 20. Cost is $115.

Conversational Spanish – Beginner: This course places emphasis on basic conversation; basic expressions; and communicating needs. 5:45-7:45 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday from Sept. 12 through Sept. 28. Cost is $130.

Wine Tasting for the Wine Connoisseur: Receive an introduction to wines grown all over the world and major grape varieties. This course will be held at Bistro on the Bayou. 7:00-9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 13. Cost is $40 and does not include dinner.

Basic Self Defense: Learn how to defend yourself in case you are attacked. 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday & Wednesday, Sept. 18 & 20. Cost is $35.

MS Word – Beginner: This course will teach you to create, modify and enhance Word documents; add graphics; work with tables; and create mailing labels. A morning class and an evening class are offered. Morning class will be held from 8:30-10:30 a.m., and evening class will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday from Sept. 19 through Sept. 28. Cost is $140 and includes text.

Travel Course: Frogmore Plantation: Travel to Frogmore Cotton Plantation & Gin and tour a rare Smithsonian-quality steam cotton gin; log cabin of hand-hewn cypress timbers; sugarcane mill and barn; and more. 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 21. Cost is $60 and does not include lunch.

Nonprofit Management Series: Earned Income, Fundraising and Corporate & Upper-Level Giving: Explore approaches to developing earned income strategies; investigate corporate giving trends; and learn strategies for increasing upper-level support of your agency by contributors. 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, Sept. 25 & 27. Cost is $145.

Fall Gardening with Bulbs: This course will cover bulb topics such as: when to plant; how to plant; how to divide, fertilize, water and mulch; and which bulbs grow well together. 6:00-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 28. Cost is $40.
