LaSIP under way at LSU Alexandria

Released: 07/10/2006

Forty teachers from five Central Louisiana parishes are at LSU Alexandria this month to learn new mathematics skills.

This is the eighth year that LSUA has hosted the Louisiana Systemic Initiative Program, which is designed to provide elementary and middle school teachers with new methods for teaching mathematics, said Dr. Tommy Awtry, LaSIP coordinator.

After they complete the 15-day LaSIP workshop, the teachers return to their schools and share what they learned with their colleagues and ultimately the students.

The conference started July 6 and concludes July 26. Attending are 40 teachers from Rapides, Allen, Red River, Grant and DeSoto parishes.
