''Romeo and Juliet'' opens Thursday night

Released: 04/26/2006

The Wednesday night performance of “Romeo and Juliet” at LSU Alexandria has been canceled. However, the three remaining performances will go on as scheduled.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday on the outdoor stage on the LSU Alexandria campus lawn. Playing the lead roles are John David Hebert II and Kayce King.

The play is part of the university’s annual Shakespeare-on-the-Greene Festival of Renaissance. The festival times are 2-7:30 p.m. Friday and from 1-7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

In addition to food booths and other activities, the festival includes continuous entertainment on the quad. This includes performances by belly dancers, the University Choir, Czech dancers, storytellers, a one-act play, Latin dancers and a bagpipers’ parade.

Also, an art exhibit featuring Louisiana artists will be on display in the University Gallery and a book sale will be in the LSUA library during the festival.

Admission to the festival is free, and organizers stress that this is a family friendly event.
