Ms. LSUA to appear on MTV show

Released: 04/18/2006

Ms. LSU Alexandria Brandi Rabalais will give up the crown on Saturday, but she won’t give up her spot in the limelight just yet.

In fact, Rabalais will represent the university one more time in a big way later this month.

Rabalais will be featured April 26 on the new MTV reality series “Tiara Girls.” The episode airs at 9:30 p.m.

The series documents the lives of beauty pageant contestants, and on the episode airing April 26 Rabalais coaches contestant Nancy Landry in the Miss Louisiana Queen of Hope Pageant in Marksville.

The MTV crew followed Landry, 18, for six weeks as she prepared for the contest. Rabalais, as her coach, was with her for most of the shoot.

“It was fun having MTV following us around, but weird having four cameras around us at all times,” Rabalais said. “It really made you pay attention to what you said.”

The crew followed Landry and Rabalais at the Alexandria Mall, at Chili’s restaurant, at Rabalais’ apartment, at Landry’s house and at Paragon Casino, where the pageant was held. The crew also followed Landry with her friends.

The episode is one of eight in the reality series, which premiers on April 19. Rabalais won’t say whether Landry won the pageant. You’ll learn that when you watch the episode, she said.

Meanwhile, Rabalais will hand over her crown during the Ms. LSU Alexandria pageant this Saturday, April 22, on campus. The event will be at 7 p.m. in the Barbara Brumfield Caffey Annex. Seven women are vying for the title.

Rabalais will graduate from LSUA in May, but she won’t leave the university altogether. She has been hired as a full-time recruiter. Landry, meanwhile, plans to attend LSUA in the fall to study communication studies.
