LSU Alexandria Debater Places First in Mississippi College Debate Tournament

The LSU Alexandria Debate Team recently traveled to Clinton, Mississippi to participate in the Mississippi College Debate Tournament. Josh Mayeux of Moreauville and Sarah Kilpatrick of Alexandria both placed in the novice division at the tournament.

Mayeux placed first in the novice debate division and also won overall for total speaker points, giving LSUA two first place trophies. Sarah Kilpatrick placed as a semifinalist in the novice division. David Pulliam and Dr. Doran O’Donnell also competed, but came up short in making the elimination rounds. Pam Mbonefor also competed in the novice division.

The International Public Debate Association’s last tournament is the Nationals, which will take place April 7-9 in Monroe. LSUA plans to have eight people enter the competition.

The LSU Alexandria Debate Team is open to any current student, faculty member, or alumni who wish to compete, but only current students can compete in the novice or varsity divisions. Students interested in competing should contact Dr. Doran O’Donnell at 427-4409.
