Applying for financial aid can be an intimidating and complicated process, so LSU Alexandria is offering help for students and their parents who wish to apply for aid for the 2004-2005 school year.

A financial aid workshop will be held on Monday, February 16 from noon until 6 p.m. in the Middleton Room of the Student Center on the LSU Alexandria campus. Financial aid counselors will assist students in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) which must be submitted to any college or university in order to receive scholarships, grants and loans. The form will be submitted electronically, and there is no charge for this service.

Students should bring several documents in order to complete the FAFSA including a completed FAFSA/Renewal for 04-05. A blank form can be obtained from the LSU Alexandria Financial Aid and Scholarships office. Students will also need a completed and signed 2003 Federal Income Tax return with W2´s for the student and spouse (if married) or for the parents (if a dependent). Any 1099 forms for income received will be needed as well as the students PIN (personal identification number) from the Department of Education if the student has one.

The workshop is co-sponsored by Chris Martin with SunTrust Educational Loans who will provide snacks and door prizes for participants. Entertainment also will be provided for students who are waiting to speak with a counselor. SunTrust has been helping students and their parents pay for college for over 30 years. They offer a range of products and services to make it easier to secure the right loan and to repay loans as easily as possible.

Students and parents are invited to drop by the workshop anytime between noon and 6 p.m. For more information about this workshop or about financial aid in general, contact the Financial Aid and Scholarships office at LSU Alexandria at (318) 473-6423.
