LSU Alexandria Debaters Place in the Tigerland Debate Tournament

Released: 03/13/2006

LSU Alexandria's Debate team has been busy this season. Students Josh Mayeux of Moreauville and David Pulliam of Pineville along with their coach Dr. Doran O’Donnell, placed in competition this past weekend at Grambling State University’s Tigerland Debate.

Mayeux placed first in overall speaker points for the Novice Division, and came in as a semifinalist during the elimination rounds. His point total increases his chances of placing in nationals which adds the highest total speaker points from 5 tournaments.

Pulliam competed in the Varsity Division, coming just short of a birth into the elimination rounds. Dr. O’Donnell competed in the Open Division and placed as a quarterfinalist.

The LSUA team has 8 students who compete, and expects to have a greater number of representatives for this weekend’s tournament at LSU Shreveport. LSUA will also compete the following week in Clinton, MS, with the nationals taking place April 7-9.

The LSU Alexandria Debate Team is open to any current student, faculty member, or alumni who wish to compete, but only current students can compete in the novice or varsity divisions. Students interested in competing should contact Dr. Doran O’Donnell at 427-4409.
