University seeking mascot ideas

Released: 02/20/2006

LSU Alexandria wants the public’s help in its search for a mascot.

As the campus moves forward toward intercollegiate athletics, the selection of an official mascot becomes important, Chancellor Robert Cavanaugh said.

Students conducted an informal survey last year to come up with a list of possible mascots. The administration and Student Government Association decided to broaden the search and solicit suggestions from the general public.

Community members can offer suggestions over the next two weeks through the university’s Web site: under the Name the Mascot Link. The Give Us Your Ideas tab allows suggestions to be submitted anonymously. Students and LSUA employees also are encouraged to offer suggestions. The deadline is March 3.

A committee will narrow the list, and the mascot could be revealed as early as this spring. Construction of baseball and softball fields are expected to begin this summer as LSUA plans its first intercollegiate games in the Spring of 2008.
