Debate team places in La. Tech tournament

Released: 02/07/2006

Members of the LSU Alexandria debate team placed in the 2006 Louisiana Tech Hot ‘n’ Spicy Championships debate tournament Feb. 4-5.

This was the second debate competition the students entered this Spring, and for some, their first tournament ever.

Four students made the cut to compete in the playoff rounds. Pam Mbonefor of Cameroon placed second overall in the Novice Division. Ann McDowell, a sophomore from Alexandria, lost to Mbonefor in the octofinals, but placed third in overall speaker points for the novice division. Both were commended by their teammates, especially since this was their first college competition.

Josh Mayeux placed as an octofinalist in the novice division, and Ann Marie McBride placed as an octofinalist in the varsity division.

The LSUA Debate and Forensics team is open to all majors, and members are encouraged to compete. The next competition is Feb. 17-19 at LSU in Baton Rouge and is an individual-event only tournament. For more information, contact Dr. Doran O’Donnell at 427-4409 or
