LSU Alexandria to host regional debate tournament

More than 100 college students from Louisiana and surrounding states are expected to compete in a regional debate tournament on the LSU Alexandria campus Jan. 27-29.

The LSUA Debate and Forensics 2006 Oak Tree Invitational will be held throughout the weekend at various locations on the campus.

Debate teams from universities in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Arkansas have signed up to participate, said Dr. Doran O’Donnell, assistant professor of communication studies at LSUA and event organizer. The LSU Alexandria team also will compete.

The tournament begins at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, and concludes around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 29.

Events include persuasive speaking, after dinner speaking, extemporaneous speaking, impromptu speaking, dramatic interpretation, program oral interpretation, duo interpretation, poetry interpretation, communication analysis and informative speaking.
