Fraternities, sororities starting at LSU Alexandria

Released: 11/02/2005

LSU Alexandria is offering Greek sororities and fraternities for the first time, a milestone made possible by the university’s status as a four-year university.

Kappa Sigma Fraternity officials are on campus now to get recruits. Recruiter Lee Mayfield said Wednesday that about 25 males have shown an interest in joining, and that’s a promising number. “It’s exciting because we’re really strong in Louisiana,” Mayfield said. If all goes as planned, Kappa Sigma could hold its first “rush” in January.

Other fraternities and sororities also have shown interest in starting chapters at LSU Alexandria. Representatives from several chapters were on campus Oct. 25 to meet prospective members at a Greek Mixer.

Anyone wishing to join Kappa Sigma is invited to an informational meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at 1611 Audubon St. in Alexandria. Call Mayfield at (850) 210-4340 for information about the meeting.
