Get in shape with Continuing Education

Want to stay in shape this fall? LSU Alexandria Continuing Education is offering several non-credit courses in October that could help you meet your fitness needs.

Fitness classes are open to the public and, like most Continuing Education courses, are offered after hours. The October lineup includes Ballroom Dancing, Yoga & Pilates and Weight Training For Women.

Ballroom Dancing This course will introduce you to beginning ballroom dancing. Participants will learn some of the more popular social dances including the Waltz, Swing and Fox Trot. The class meets from 7-8 p.m. every Tuesday in October, beginning Oct. 4 and ending Oct. 25. It will be held in Room 206 of the LSUA Fitness Center. The instructor is Randy Sims, and the cost is $50. Look for country and western dancing in November.

Yoga & Pilates This course combines both yoga and Pilates. Participants will learn simple postures to increase range of motion, improve flexibility, core muscle strength and balance. Breathing and stress management also will be addressed. A yoga or Pilates mat is required. The class meets from 4:30-5:15 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday in October at a cost of $50. It is held in Room 206 of the Fitness Center. The instructor is Emmy Partain.

Weight Training for Women This is a weight-training course designed specifically for women. Participants will be introduced to proper technique and form, toning and sculpting and a healthier lifestyle. It meets every from 4:30-5:30 p.m. every Monday and Wednesday in October in Room 204 of the Fitness Center. The instructor is Lee Marsh and the cost, $50.

Continuing Education also offers four water aerobics classes each month.
