LSU Alexandria grad directs former teacher

Released: 09/13/2005

LSU Alexandria graduate Tricia St. Romain Brown will direct Dr. Jim Stacy, her former directing teacher and director of theatre at LSUA, in the upcoming City Park Players production of “Proof,” which runs Sept. 15-18 and 22-25, at the Bringhurst Park Theatre.

Brown directed a one-act play, “Final Placement,” as part of the Student Director’s Showcase 2004, a requirement for Stacy’s directing class. “She has a real director’s eye, and seems to love the work,” Stacy said.

“Proof,” a drama by David Auburn, won both the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award in 2001. It concerns the gifted but disturbed daughter of a genius math professor who has lost his mental faculties; the daughter is worried about her own mental stability. The playwright has also wrapped a mystery into this family drama: who actually wrote the brilliant proof that is discovered after the father’s death. Stacy is cast in the role of the math professor.
