LSU ALEXANDRIA OFFERS TEST PREP FOR YOUNG LEARNERS

<p>LSU Alexandria Continuing Education has expanded its theme of lifelong learning to include test preparation for students at the jr. and high school level. Four courses will be offered this spring to prepare students for tests at several different levels. Pre-registration, which includes payment of fees, is required for all classes. </p> <p>Graduate Exit Exam (GEE) English Skills Review: Passing the English Language Arts section of the Graduate Exit Exam (GEE) is mandatory for earning a high school diploma. This 4-session course will help participants review specific skills assessed on the GEE, including writing, using information resources, reading and responding, and proofreading. Participants will also take practice test sections, rehearse test taking strategies, and learn independent study techniques. </p> <p>The class will meet on Tuesdays, January 27, February 3, 10, and 17 from 4 until 6 p.m. on the LSU Alexandria campus. The fee is $95 and the instructor is Elizabeth Beard. </p> <p>Leap Prep 8th Grade English Skills Review: Review the fundamental skills for the English Language Arts section of the LEAP 21, including writing, using information resources, reading and responding, and proofreading. Sessions will focus on the LEAP test format, test-taking strategies, practice testing, and independent study and preparation techniques. </p> <p>The dates for the course are Thursdays, January 29 and February 5, 12, and 19 from 4 until 6 p.m. The class will meet at Calvary Baptist Church on Jackson Street in Alexandria in the Chi Alpha House, Room S215. The fee is $95 and the instructor is Elizabeth Beard. </p> <p>ACT Prep-Verbal & Math Basic Review: Students will learn powerful test taking strategies for each section and question type, and frequently tested concepts and question patterns. Each student will receive a Cambridge ACT/PLAN/EXPLORE textbook that includes powerful Test Prep strategies, admissions advice, quizzes, upper quartile problems, tests with explained answers, and math and verbal basic skills review. </p> <p>The class will meet on Tuesdays & Thursdays, March 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25, and 30 from 4 until 7 p.m. The location will be Calvary Baptist Church on Jackson Street in Alexandria, Chi Alpha House, Room S215. The fee is $250 which includes the text and the instructor is Dorothy Long. </p> <p>ACT Math Prep: This course provides a general review of the topics covered on the mathematics portion of the ACT exam. Test-taking strategies will be discussed. Handouts will be provided. Participants may choose from one of three sections offered: Section 1-Tuesday and Thursday, February 3 and 5; Section 2-Tuesday and Thursday, March 30 and April 1; Section 3-Tuesday and Thursday, June 8 and 10.
