Water aerobics classes canceled for now

Released: 08/29/2005

LSU Alexandria Continuing Education is canceling its water aerobics classes until further notice while the campus’ Fitness Center is being used as a shelter for special-needs patients fleeing Hurricane Katrina.

The university’s swimming pool is located in the Fitness Center, which opened as a special-needs shelter on Saturday. In addition to the 225 people who are seeking shelter in the gymnasium, National Guardsmen and employees from the Office of Public Health and state Department of Social Services have made their base of operations in the Fitness Center.

Even though the swimming pool area is not being used, Continuing Education decided to cancel its four water aerobics because of the increase in traffic and parking at the Fitness Center.

All other classes at LSU Alexandria are being held as usual. However, some classes that meet in the Fitness Center have been moved to other parts of campus.
