Alumni & Friends Cochon de Lait set for May 19

Released: 05/10/2005

LSU Alexandria’s Alumni & Friends Association is searching for former students and university supporters.

Because of LSUA’s unique history as a two-year college that was recently converted to a four-year university, its alumni association is not limited to graduates. In fact, it is not limited to those who attended LSU Alexandria. The Alumni & Friends Association is open to anyone who wants to support the school, regardless of whether they attended.

Joining the association is an excellent way to reconnect with former classmates and others who have shaped the university, said Missy LaBorde, director of Institutional Advancement. “So many of our friends in the community never attended here, but they became part of the campus community during the four-year effort or through a particular program or activity.”

The association holds social events every year, giving members a chance to see old friends, meet new ones and hear updates about the university.

The next social is a Cochon de Lait at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19, on the campus plaza. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased by calling 473-6472.

Membership to the Alumni & Friends Association is $25 a year, and the cost includes numerous benefits. Members get access to many LSU Alexandria services, including the campus swimming pool, weight room and tennis courts, as well as reduced rates at the golf course.

Members also become subscribers to the Alumni & Friends newsletter, which was launched in May and highlights what former students are doing today.

To find out more about the association, visit the website http://alumni.lsua.edu/. The site allows former students to update their information, which will eventually be placed in a directory.

The association, which was organized last year, is giving the Spring 2005 graduating class a free membership for a year, LaBorde said.
