Auditions May 18-19 for Summer Dinner Theatre Show

Released: 05/09/2005

Auditions for LSU Alexandria’s Empty Space Players’ production of “Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris” will be Wednesday, May 18, and Thursday, May 19.

An exciting musical revue and long-running off-Broadway classic, “Jacques Brel” will be directed locally by Richard Gwartney, chair of LSUA’s Department of Arts, English and Humanities.

The auditions will be for four actors/singers – two males and two females.

Auditions will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at Bringhurst Theatre in Alexandria City Park and at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19, in Room 205 of the Fitness Center on the LSU Alexandria campus.

Actors are required to bring sheet music or tape for two contrasting songs. Call 473-6581 for more details about the auditions.

The production is LSUA’s Summer Dinner Theatre Show, which is scheduled to run June 17-19 and June 24-26.

New York Times critic Clive Barnes wrote that the musical’s songs “are impassioned and powerful, capable of stirring an audience almost to a frenzy … but they are also unusually poetic and beautiful, suggesting not only Kurt Weill but Lennon and McCartney in their more lyrical vein.”
