Professor selected curator for religious art exhibit

An LSU Alexandria professor has been chosen to be the curator of an exhibit featuring 225 years of liturgical art.

The “Treasures for the King” exhibit opens April 19 at the Xavier Hall of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral at 626 Fourth St. in downtown Alexandria. The curator is Roy V. de Ville, professor of fine arts and University Gallery director at LSU Alexandria. De Ville has done extensive research and study in liturgical art of Europe.

The exhibit features vestments, liturgical books and religious artifacts. These works of art originated in many parts of the world.

The Diocese of Alexandria and St. Francis Xavier Cathedral are hosting the exhibit, which runs April 19-May 19. Admission is free. Exhibit hours are from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For more information, call the Cathedral at 445-1451.
