Nursing students plan April 15 Heart-A-Tax campaign

Released: 04/11/2005

LSU Alexandria’s graduating nursing students will provide free blood pressure and glucose screenings at local post offices on income-tax day this Friday.

For the Heart-A-Tax campaign, the 48 students also plan to hand out literature on heart disease and stroke awareness.

“We are interested in providing preventative care to our valued community,” said student Claire Builodeau, who is coordinating the event.

The students decided to be at post offices on April 15 because of the increased flow of traffic from people filing their income taxes by the midnight deadline. They will be at the Main Branch on Odom Street in Alexandria, the Alexandria branches on Government Street and Metro Drive, and at post offices in Marksville and the Pineville area. They will begin at 7 a.m. and end around 7 p.m.
