Seven to compete for Ms. LSUA title

The 45th annual Ms. LSU Alexandria pageant “Hollywood Premiere” will be at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, in the Barbara Brumfield Caffey Annex.

Seven ladies will compete for a chancellor’s scholarship worth $1,000 and the chance to represent LSU Alexandria for the 2005-06 school year. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at LSU Alexandria Auxiliary Services or at the door the night of the event.

The contestants are LeeAnn Ashley, Claire Castillo, Amanda Cramer, Brittany O’Neal, Brandi Rabalais, LaKesshia Slaughter and Jamie Smith.

LeeAnn Ashley is a dental hygiene major from Alexandria. Her platform topic is “Abstinence: Protect, Respect and Define Yourself.”

Claire Castillo is a radiologic technology major from Pineville. Her platform topic is “Promoting Healthy Emotional Development in Children.”

Amanda Cramer is an elementary education major from Jena. Her platform topic is “Children’s Literacy.”

Brittany O’Neal is a speech communications major from Pineville. Her platform topic is “Promoting Extracurricular Activities to Underprivileged Children.”

Brandi Rabalais is a speech communications major from Simmesport. Her platform topic is “Heart Disease: Raising Awareness of the Number One Killer of Women.”

LaKesshia Slaughter is a radiologic technology major from Alexandria. Her platform topic is “Head Start: A Great Beginning.”

Jamie Smith is a political science major from Pineville. Her platform topic is “Benefits of Adoption for Teen Parents and Their Children.”

The Ms. LSU Alexandria pageant is open to all female LSU Alexandria students regardless of age or marital status. The pageant will include casual wear and evening wear competitions. An interview session by the judges will be held prior to the event. A People’s Choice Award, Scholastic Achievement Award, Ms. Congeniality and first and second runners-up will be presented, followed by the crowning of Ms. LSU Alexandria 2005 by Breean Giroir, the current Ms. LSU Alexandria.

Melissa C. LaBorde, director of Institutional Advancement at LSU Alexandria, will serve as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening. Entertainment will be provided by Richard Gwartney, Marlene Roney, Breean Giroir, Sarah Smith, Annie Firmin and the Grant High School Golden Dazzlers.
