LSU Alexandria holding financial aid workshops

Released: 01/11/2005

LSU Alexandria is offering help to students and parents who wish to apply for financial aid for the 2005-2006 school year.

Financial aid workshops will be Thursday, Feb. 3, and Tuesday, Feb. 22, in the Middleton Room of the Student Center on the LSU Alexandria campus. Students can stop by the workshops any time from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. or 4 p.m.-6 p.m. either day.

Financial aid counselors will help students complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which must be submitted to any college or university in order to receive scholarships, grants and loans. The form will be submitted electronically, and there is no charge for this service.

Students should bring several documents, including a completed FAFSA/Renewal for 05-06. A blank form can be obtained from the LSU Alexandria Financial Aid and Scholarships office. Students also will need a completed and signed 2004 Federal Income Tax return with W2 forms for the student and spouse (if married) or for the parents (if a dependent). Any 1099 forms for income received will be needed, as will the student’s personal identification number from the Department of Education, if the student has one.

The workshops are co-sponsored by Johnny Manella with Citibank, which will provide snacks and door prizes for participants. Citibank has been financing higher education for more than 50 years. Through its subsidiary, the Student Loan Corporation, Citibank is a leading originator and holder of loans under the Federal Family Education Loan Program.
