LSU Alexandria holds nurse pinning ceremony

Forty-seven LSU Alexandria nursing graduates participated in a traditional nurse pinning ceremony Thursday on campus.

Guest speaker was Jacqueline Schexnyder, M.S.N., R.N., a certified registered nurse practitioner from Lecompte. She is a nurse practitioner at Alexandria Gastroenterology Associates and has 30 years experience in the field of nursing.

The graduates received their pins from Dorothy Lary, chair of the Department of Nursing at LSU Alexandria. They then participated in the traditional candle-lighting ceremony and recited the Nightingale Pledge in honor of Florence Nightingale, a pioneer and reformer of the nursing profession. The pledge is a variation of the Hippocratic Oath taken by physicians and is a traditional part of pinning ceremonies dating back to the 1800s.

Nursing graduates who participated in the ceremony include Midori Tone Bhati, Priscilla Diane Butler, Karen Latrease Davis, Jennifer Elizabeth Doyle, Michele Lachney Fowler, Brandie Nicole Setliff and Kelly Marie Lemoine Waring, all of Alexandria; Angela C. Melancon of Boyce; Ashley Saucier Ducote, Anjelica Sarver Moreau and Victoria Lynn Pena, all of Cottonport; Leslie Smith McDowell and Amy Tuma Paul, both of Deville; Sherri Annette DeSoto of Dry Prong; Jane Daniell Gordon McDaniel of Elmer; Rhonda L. Boudreaux and Trisha Aguillard Dies, both of Eunice.
