LSU Alexandria Offers Non-Credit Short Courses and a Free Forum in November

LSU Alexandria Continuing Education will offer a variety of non-credit classes and the last Free Forum for Fall in November. These courses provide opportunities for professional and personal growth, development, self-enrichment, wellness and fitness. <p> BUSINESS </p><p> Business Finance for Non-Financial – Get a better grasp of the “numbers” side of the business. This class is designed to assist non-financial managers and staff members in understanding and effectively using the basic business finance concepts. It helps employees to better understand the bottom line, their impact on it, and how to get “buy in” on issues that affect the financial health of their team, departments and company. It will be held Saturday, November 22 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The fee is $200, and lunch is not included. </p><p> Communication Isn’t Everything…It’s the Only Thing – This basic course covers the essentials of effective communications, focusing on enhancing verbal skills. It will be held Thursday, November 13 from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. The fee is $65. </p><p> Congratulations New Supervisor! – This course provides new managers and supervisors the ability to learn and acquire the core skills needed to grow in their new management role. It combines a wide range of managerial topics and incorporates a number of easy ways to use assessment, planning, and implementation tools that can be immediately used back on the job. It will be held Thursday, November 20 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The fee is $200, and lunch is not included. </p><p> Human Resource Series – These classes are the beginning of a series of human-resource based workshops, which will be offered in the Fall and Spring semesters for anyone interested in human resource topics. </p><p> • Basics of Employment & Workplace Anti-Discrimination Laws is to be held Tuesday, November 11 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The fee is $110. </p><p> • Building a Customer-Friendly Workforce (Customer Service) is to be held Tuesday and Thursday, November 4 & 6 from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. The fee is $99. </p><p> • The Practice of Human Resources is to be held Thursday, November 13 from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. The fee is $100 and includes 2 reference texts. </p><p>

Marketing/PR & Sales Certificate Series – Cosponsored by the Cenla chapter of the Public Relations Association of Louisiana, this is the first classes in an eight-part series, which will conclude in the Spring semester. This series was developed for anyone interested in or currently working in positions requiring marketing, public relations and/or sales skills. You can take all of the classes or just a few. The fee is $110 per class. PRAL and Chamber members receive a 10% discount if noted on their registration form. </p><p> Marketing Fundamentals & Principles is to be held Friday, November 21 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. </p><p> Marketing Communication & Promotion is to be held Friday, November 21 from 1 until 5 p.m.Notary Public Exam Prep – This course enables you to learn the role and responsibilities of a notary public in Rapides Parish and assists you in your preparation for the notary public examination. It will be held Saturday, November 1 from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. The fee is $75. </p><p> Private Investigation – This course counts toward the required hours of continuing education credit for state licensing renewal for private investigators. Section One will be held Tuesday and Thursday, November 18 and 20 from 5:30 until 9:30 p.m. Section Two will be held Saturday, November 22 from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The fee for each class is $99. </p><p> COMPUTERS </p><p> Microsoft Office (Intro to Word & Excel) – This course introduces you to using Microsoft Office. Learn the fundamentals of word processing with Word 2002 and using spreadsheets with Excel 2002. Prerequisites: basic computer and mouse skills. It will be held Thursdays, November 6, 13 & 20. The fee is $155. </p><p> Microsoft Outlook – Introduction to the personal information management system. Learn how to send, receive, and organize e-mail files; schedule appointments and events; organize tasks; and manage address book contact information. Prerequisites: basic computer and mouse skills. It will be held Fridays, November 7, 14, and 21 from 8:30 a.m.until12:30 p.m. The fee is $155, which includes a text. </p><p> Publisher – This is the publishing program that can produce! Come explore the innovative way to create newsletters, brochures, company calendars and more. Prerequisites: basic computer and mouse skills. It will be held Monday, November 17 from 9 a.m. until noon. The fee is $45. </p><p> LEISURE </p><p> Adult Learn to Swim (Beginner) – Tired of not being able to swim with your family and friends? This course is designed for adults who currently do not know how to swim. It will be held November 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13, 18 & 19 from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. The fee is $65. </p><p> Adult Learn to Swim (Intermediate) - This course is designed for adults who are currently swimmers and would like to learn different swimming strokes, or to increase endurance for lap swimming. It will be held November 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13, 18 and 19 from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. The fee is $65. </p><p> Digital Photography - If you’re thinking of buying a digital camera, or already own one, you could benefit from this course. Participants will be introduced to the basic functions of a digital camera, as well as how to transfer, edit, enhance, save and print pictures. Also included in the fee, is a licensed copy of the photo editing software used for instruction. It will be held Monday, November 3. The fee is $80. </p><p> Fall Color Photography - This class is a field trip to the Lake Buhlow area. Participants will learn how to use the lake’s reflection for enhancing fall color photos. They will also learn how to get close up pictures of individual leaves, the proper way to take fall landscape photos, and have the opportunity to capture some fall color sunset shots at the lake, as well as so much more. Those who have taken LSU Alexandria’s beginning photography class will find this the logical next step. It will be held Saturday, November 1 from 2 until 5 p.m. The fee is $35. </p><p> Sign Language – Beginners will learn the basics of sign language and how to communicate in exact English using signs. Learn how to sign simple phrases, sentences and more. It will be held November 18 and 20 from 6 until 9 p.m. The fee is $90 which includes a textbook. </p><p> Stained Glass (Beginner) – Come see how enjoyable and fascinating this hobby is, and complete a copper foil stained glass project. Students will be required to purchase their glass after the first class. It will be held Wednesdays and Thursdays, November 5, 6 ,12 and13 from 5:30 until 9 p.m. The fee is $80. </p><p> FREE FORUM </p><p> Meet with various faculty, staff and community leaders for refreshments and conversation in their field of study. These Free Forums are brought to you as a public service at no charge and are sponsored by the Bank of LeCompte. </p><p> Collaborative Divorce: “No Court, No Fight” – Divorce can be an ugly and painful process, but there’s a new system in place where you don’t have to go to court for a divorce. Collaborative Divorce is a team-based system for assisting couples, especially those with children, with divorce in a non-adversarial way. It will be held Tuesday, November 18 from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. at LSU Alexandria. </p><p> Pre-registration is required for all classes.
