Groundbreaking Oct. 14 for campus housing

Groundbreaking for LSU Alexandria’s first campus housing complex is set for 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Chancellor Robert Cavanaugh, Vice Chancellor David Wesse and Student Government Association President Jennie Monk will represent the campus for the groundbreaking ceremony. Also participating will be representatives of Century Development, a private Texas company that will construct and maintain the complex. The event will be at the construction site at the corner of Water Tower Drive and Gregg Marshall Drive off U.S. Highway 71. The 300-tenant apartment complex is scheduled to open for the Fall 2005 semester. It will include five three-story buildings as well as a clubhouse with a pool and sand volleyball court. LSU Alexandria students will have first opportunity to lease an apartment. Students will be given the option of signing 9- or 12-month leases.
