LSU Alexandria Continuing Education Courses for September

Continuing Education at LSU Alexandria has planned a number of noncredit courses for the community beginning in September. Some of the different categories of courses are Personal Enrichment, Certification/Permits and Examination Preparation, Insurance and Financial Consortium, Marketing/PR & Sales Certificate Series, Professional Development, Money and Investment Management, and Computer and Technology Training, and Water & Wellness. <p> The course offerings beginning in September include classes from six of the different categories. Pre-registration, which includes payment of fees, is required for all courses. </p><p> <strong>Computer and Technology Training</strong> </p><p>

Computer Basics: Beginner is a course for people with little or no computer experience. It will be held on Tuesdays, Sept. 9, 16, 23, and 30 from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. The fee is $155 and includes the text. Becky L. Tassin, M. Ed. will be the instructor for the course which covers topics including the difference in hardware and software, parts of the computer and its terminology, and managing files in a Windows operating system. </p><p> Microsoft Excel (Introduction) will teach participants the basics of Excel such as how to create a simple spreadsheet, enter data and create charts and graphs. The class meets on Thursdays, September 11, 18 and 25 from 12:30 until 4:30 p.m. The fee is $155 and includes the text. The instructor is Becky L. Tassin, M. Ed. There is a prerequisite of basic computer and keyboarding skills. </p><p> Microsoft Publisher will explore the innovative way to create newsletters, brochures, company calendars and more. The class is offered on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Basic computer and keyboarding skills are prerequisites. Mary Moreau will teach the course and the fee is $45. </p><p> <strong>Certification/Permits Exam Preparation & License Renewal</strong> </p><p> Notary Public Exam Prep enables participants to learn the role and responsibilities of a notary public in Rapides Parish. The class will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. The fee is $75 and Steve Palmer, J.D is the instructor. </p><p> The Louisiana Concealed Handgun Permit Course and Renewal of Permit course holds the classroom portion of the course on Monday and Tuesday Sept. 8 and 9 from 5:45 until </p><p> 9:15 p.m. The live range fire portion is held on either Friday, Sept 19 or Sunday, Sept 28. The fee is $80 and the instructor is John Lummus. </p><p><strong> Insurance & Financial Consortium</strong> </p><p> The course for Pre-Licensing Property/Casualty will be held on Fridays and Saturdays, Sept. 12, 13,19, 20, and Nov. 14, 15, 21, and 22 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. </p><p> <strong>Personal Enrichment</strong> </p><p> Resume Writing and Job Interviewing will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Learn how to write a professional resume that will help you get your dream job, as well as, tips for succeeding in an interview. The fee is $55 and includes resume writing kit. Joseph McCarty, M. Ed. will be the instructor for the course. </p><p> In the Beginner Stained Glass course, participants will complete a copper foil stained glass project. Students will be required to purchase their glass after the first class meeting. Denise Bankovic will instruct the class on Wednesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 24, 25 and Oct. 1 and 2. Class times are from 5:30 until 9 p.m. for a fee of $80 that does not include glass. </p><p> Wedding Planning will cover every aspect of creating a problem-free wedding. The course will be held on Thursday, Sept. 25 from 5:30 until 9 p.m. Bobbi Rice will be the instructor for a fee of $45. </p><p> Auto Care 101 (Ladies Only!) will teach the basics of automobile care and maintenance. Topics include checking the oil/fluids, changing a tire and windshield wipers, and many more common sense maintenance tips. The class will be held on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. The fee is $35 and Gary Moreau, Ford Senior and ASE Master Technician will be the instructor. </p><p> <strong>Professional Development</strong> </p><p> Self-Employed and Surviving is a comprehensive workshop to enhance your ability to be successful in the highly competitive world of THE SELF-EMPLOYED. The workshop will be held on Thursday, Sept. 25 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The fee is $200 and E.J. Smith, M.B.A will be the instructor. </p><p> <strong>Water & Wellness</strong> </p><p> Underwater Photography is a beginner’s level class to learn how to take photographs underwater. Full scuba equipment must be provided by student with a prerequisite of scuba diving experience or certification. The class will meet on Wednesdays, Sept. 10, 17 and 24 from 6 until 8 p.m. The fee is $100 and includes underwater photo diver kit.
