LSU Alexandria Offers Free Forums

Central Louisiana residents are invited to attend two Free Forums at LSU Alexandria in September. Free Forums provide an opportunity to meet with various LSU Alexandria faculty or staff and community leaders for refreshments and conversation in their field of study. <p> Free Forums are brought to you as a public service at no charge and are sponsored by the Bank of Lecompte. Pre-registration is required by phoning Continuing Education at 473-6495 due to limited seating. </p><p> The first forum is titled Soul Comes Home: From “Knock on Wood” to “Shaft” and will be held on Tuesday, September 9 from 6 until 8 p.m. Dr. Greg Gormanous, chairman of the department of Behavioral and Social Sciences and professor of psychology, will lead the forum. The forum is in celebration of Otis Redding’s birthday and will highlight the music of STAX records in Memphis. </p><p> Selections include Eddie Floyd’s “Knock on Wood,” Sir Mack Rice’s “Mustang Mama,” Solomon Burke’s tribute to Otis with “ Try a Little Tenderness,” and Steve Cropper’s “Dock of the Bay.” Music CD’s and videos will be presented. </p><p> Budgeting for Your Wedding is the topic for the second Free Forum offered on Thursday, September 18 from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Come learn how to make the most of your money by creating a budget specialized for your important day.
