CAVANAUGH NAMED CLCU PRESIDENT

<p> Louisiana State University at Alexandria&acute;s (LSUA) Chancellor Robert Cavanaugh was named the 1998 president of the Conference for Louisiana Colleges and Universities (CLCU) at the 60th annual meeting in Lake Charles recently. </p><p> Dr. Cavanaugh has been at LSUA for 29 years where he has served in various capacities. He began his career as an instructor of health and physical education in September 1969. He quickly moved through the ranks to become a full professor and from July 1989 through June 1994, Cavanaugh held the post of vice chancellor of academic affairs. He has served as chancellor of LSUA since that time. </p><p> Cavanaugh also serves in the community as a member of the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Rapides Parish Education, past president of the United Way, and board member of the Rapides Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees, Alexandria Rotary Club and Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce. </p><p> The purpose of the Conference of Louisiana Colleges and Universities is the advancement of higher education in Louisiana. The members of the conference consists of representatives from universities, colleges and junior/community colleges located with the state. The State of Louisiana Board of Regents, The Board of Supervisors for Louisiana State University, the Board of Trustees for State Colleges and Universities, the Board of Supervisors for the Southern University System, and the Louisiana Association of Independent Colleges and Universities or their successors are also members and are represented by their chief executive officers. </p><p> LSUA will serve as the host for the 61st annual conference in the spring of 1999. Other CLCU officers include secretary, Dr. Alice Pecoraro of Nichols State University, and treasurer, P. Ray Chandler, retired faculty member of LSUA </p>
