Louisiana State University at Alexandria (LSUA) presented over 115 awards to 85 students during its 36th Annual Honors Day Convocation held on Monday, April 27, 1998. Dr. Patsy Jenkins, superintendent of schools for the Rapides Parish School District, presented the convocation address.
Several LaSalle parish residents were among those receiving honors. Sophomore-plus Wisti Lemons of Olla was presented with the Civitan Citizenship Award from the Alexandria Civitan Club. Ms. Lemons was also recognized for outstanding service as a student leader in the Student Nurses Association.
Dr. Randall Stovall, vice chancellor for academic affairs, presented a medal to sophomore-plus Linda Wesson of Olla for academic excellence in nursing.
Dr. Stovall also presented certificates for academic excellence to both full and part-time students who had maintained a 3.5 grade point average or above (GPA). Students are classified as full-time when enrolled in 12 or more credit hours per semester. Part-time students are those enrolled in 6-11 credit hours per semester.
Sophomore Cindy Smith of Olla received a certificate for a 3.5 GPA or greater as a full-time student. Also, sophomore-plus Michael Hailey of Jena was recognized as a part-time student with a 3.5 or greater GPA.
