Released: 07/01/1998

Louisiana State University at Alexandria is offering a 4-week summer session course to assist 1997 and 1998 high school graduates in meeting eligibility requirements for the state´s new Tuition Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS). Spanish 1001 will be offered from 8 a.m. until 12:20 p.m. daily beginning on July 9 and continuing through July 31. The class will meet on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Students applying to the state for TOPS awards must have completed a core curriculum that includes foreign language. Because many high school curricula do not include foreign language, the units required for TOPS eligibility may be earned at the college level.

Individuals interested in registering for Spanish 1001 at LSUA this summer should contact the Admissions Office at 473-6416 or 888-473-6417 as soon as possible. The office may also be contacted at www.lsua.edu.

For more information concerning the TOPS program, contact the Louisiana Office of Financial Assistance at 504-922-1012 or 800-259-5626 ext. 1012.
