<p> Louisiana State University at Alexandria is offering three travel opportunities for individuals to explore Northern France and London, the French Riviera and Spain, and the Amazon Rainforest in Peru. </p><p> As part of Louisiana&acute;s Francofete&acute;99 celebration of the 300th anniversary of France&acute;s presence in our state, LSUA is offering two travel opportunities emphasizing French culture. </p><p> The London/Paris and the French Chateaux trip will depart in late May for nine days in London and northern France. While in London, participants will see St. Paul&acute;s Cathedral and Stonehenge before setting out for Paris to see Versailles, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Louvre. The group will then travel to Caen and the Loire Valley to see the D-Day Beaches and Mont St. Michel. Tentative departure date for this trip is May 27, 1999. </p><p> The French Riviera, Lourdes and Barcelona trip will depart in June for 10 days in France and Spain. Scheduled visits include Nice&acute;s Promenade des Anglais and a visit to the Marc Chagall Museum with stops at Marseilles, Cassis, Montpellier and Carcassone. Participants will visit the historic center of Toulouse and the grotto where the Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette at Lourdes. The final stop of the tour will be Barcelona, Spain, to see the monument to Christopher Columbus and Gaudi&acute;s La Sagrada Familia. Tentative departure date for this trip is June 10, 1999. </p><p> Both France trips are offered to the public as non-credit courses. LSUA students, students from other colleges and high school seniors may enroll for college credit. Cost for the trips includes round trip airfare, hotel, breakfast and supper daily, guided tours and admission fees for selected sites, and intercity transportation in a private motor coach with professional, multi-lingual tour guide. Approximate cost for the London/Paris and the French Chateaux trip is $1,925 plus applicable fees. Approximate cost for the French Riviera, Lourdes and Barcelona trip is $2,342 plus applicable fees. </p><p> Credit offerings for the tours include English, fine arts, history, Spanish or theatre. All courses may be taken for 1-3 hours credit. The trip, scheduled for May 29- June 5, will include land and water jungle excursions with experienced Peruvian bilingual guides. These excursions will provide first-hand opportunities to learn about plant and animal communities. Participants will visit the 250,000-acre Amazon Wildlife Reserve, learn about current rainforest research, and explore the treetops on the 150 feet ACEER Canopy Walkway. They will also visit with the native people and observe the culture in the region. </p><p> The program will be led by Dr. Carol Corbat, associate professor of Biology, who has visited the area. "It&acute;s a fascinating trip," Dr. Corbat said. "You are able to see a beautiful area of the world that is rapidly being destroyed, and you can experience a culture vastly different from anything here in the United States." </p><p> The trip costs $2063 and includes predeparture information, air transportation from Miami, scheduled transportation in Peru, all accommodations, meals, hotel charges, all transfers and airport departure taxes. </p><p> An optional five-day extension to the heart of the Inca Empire, Cusco and Machu Picchu will also be offered at an additional cost.
