LSU Alexandria´s Empty Space Players to Present "Steel Magnolias"

LSU Alexandria&apos;s Empty Space Players is preparing for its first production of the season, &quot;Steel Magnolias.&quot; Dr. James Stacy, associate professor of speech and theatre, will be directing. Dr. Stacy is new to the LSU Alexandria faculty this fall and will serve as the director of theatre. <p> &quot;Steel Magnolias&quot; takes place in Louisiana during the 1980&apos;s and involves a tightly knit group of women friends whose husbands (being absent, depressed or dead) leave them lots of time to gossip at the beauty parlor, according to film critic Roger Ebert. When tragedy strikes and there is a death in their little group, they have the strength to grieve and the character to smile through their tears. </p><p> The Empty Space Players cast includes Jaclyn Soileau of Forest Hill as Truvy, Jennifer Hailey of Marksville as Annelle, Lisa Mayeux of Marksville as Clairee, Jessica Rambo of Pineville as Shelby, Jennifer McKay of Boyce as M’Lynn and Ginger Jones of Alexandria as Ouiser. </p><p> Understudies are Cassie Mealer of Glenmora as Annelle, Kathy Johnson of Alexandria as Clairee and Ouiser, Jeanne Daley of Alexandria as Shelby and Tricia Lopez of Pineville as M&apos;Lynn. </p><p> The show will run October 22-28 at 7:30 nightly, with a Friday matinee to be announced. On Sunday, Oct. 26, there will be one performance, a matinee benefitting the American Diabetes Association. Performances will be held on campus in the Physical Education Building Room 205. Reservations are required by phoning 473-6467 due to limited seating. </p><p> General Admission is $8, LSU Alexandria students pay $3 with current identification, and LSU Alexandria faculty, staff, senior adults, and any other student can attend for $5. </p><p> The stage crew includes Sheila Hudson as stage manager with her assistant Stephanie Waters. Assistant director is Jeanne Daley with Belle Rollins serving as costume coordinator. Wendi Vermaelen will be the hair consultant.
