CAPS Registration Schedule

<p> Classes for the Children&acute;s Academic Program for Summer (CAPS), coordinated by the Division of Continuing Education and Technology at Louisiana State University at Alexandria, are scheduled for Monday through Friday, June 18 - June 29, from 1 until 5 p.m. on the LSUA campus. </p><p> CAPS is open to any student who will complete the third, fourth, fifth or sixth grade this May and who is academically and socially prepared for this challenging program. </p><p> To be eligible for CAPS, students must meet one of the following criteria: (1) be certified as "Gifted and Talented," (2) have maintained a 3.0 (B) average for each reporting period during the current school year, or (3) have the recommendation of his teacher and principal. </p><p> Registration for students who were in the program last year, or who are brothers and sisters of continuing students is taking place now. </p><p> All other students may register April 25 through June 8 or until classes are filled. Registration applications should not be postmarked before Monday, April 23. Applications for all students must be accompanied with a statement from his or her teacher and principal verifying that he or she is not a discipline problem. </p><p> The fee for the two week program is $200. Families with more than one child enrolled in CAPS must pay the full fee for one child, but will receive a $20 discount for each additional child. The fee includes soft drinks and chips each day, as well as an official CAPS T-shirt. </p><p> Students take four classes a day, each lasting 45 minutes. Class schedules with alternate choices are submitted with the application.
