LSUA Offers Summer Continuing Education Courses

<p> The Louisiana State University at Alexandria (LSUA) Division of Continuing Education is offering the following non-credit continuing education courses this summer. All classes meet on the LSUA campus unless otherwise noted and require pre-registration by contacting the division at (318) 473-6495. </p><p> All of the water exercise classes meet in the LSUA pool located in the Physical Education Building for a fee of $31 per month per class. Continuing students pay a discounted rate of $25 per month. </p><p> Aquacise is a routine of specially designed exercises which use the water&acute;s natural buoyancy and resistance and may improve physical fitness, mental alertness, and emotional health. Exercises are conducted in shallow and/or deep water and are suitable for all levels of physical ability and water orientation. Faye Reynolds instructs the group on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 until 9:55 a.m. </p><p>

Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program plus Deep Water is a NO IMPACT program. All exercises are performed in deep water and all activities are within the capabilities of most people with arthritis. It is not necessary to know how to swim. Although it is a nonclinical program, it may result in some physical benefits such as decreased pain and increased flexibility and endurance. Participants should have functional and relatively comfortable shoulder and elbow motion and be able to tolerate a 10 to 20 minute aquatic endurance component without excessive pain, fatigue, or shortness of breath. Participants must provide Aqua Jogger or instructor-approved buoyancy apparatus. Participants should have functional and relatively comfortable shoulder and elbow motion and be able to tolerate a 10 to 20 minute aquatic endurance component or 15 minutes standing or walking on land without excessive pain, fatigue, or shortness of breath. </p><p> SECTION 1 is held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 until 3:25 p.m. SECTION 2 in held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 until 5:25 p.m. </p><p> The La. Concealed Handgun Permit & Renewal Course will be held on Monday and Tuesday, June 3 and 4 from 5:45 until 9:15 p.m. The live range fire portion of the course will be held on Saturday, June 15. The fee for the class is $70 and pre-registration, which includes payment of fees, is required. </p><p> Individuals applying to the Department of Public Safety for a permit to carry a concealed weapon must demonstrate competence with a handgun. This course is approved by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections to meet that requirement of the law. This course also meets the requirements for those applying for renewal of a permit. </p><p> The course consists of nine hours of instruction including two hours of actual live range fire and proper handgun cleaning procedures. Live range fire will be held at an alternate location. Participants must provide gun and ammunition for the live range portion of the class. The course is taught by a POST certified instructor. Participants must be 21 years of age or older. </p><p> Preparing for the Notary Public Exam will be offered on Saturday, June 8. The class will meet on the LSUA campus from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. The cost of the course is $47. Pre-registration, which includes fee payment, is required. </p><p> The course is offered to help prepare persons planning to take the Notary Public Examination. Participants will learn the role and responsibilities of a notary public in Rapides Parish.
