Dr. F. King Alexander, president-elect of the LSU System, will meet with LSU Alexandria faculty, staff, and students on Wednesday, May 1, during a fact-finding visit to the Alexandria campus.
The open forum with faculty, staff, and students will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the Brumfield Caffey Annex, adjacent to the Magnolia Café in the Student Center.
Prior to the meeting, Dr. Alexander will tour various areas of the campus, including the Multipurpose Academic Center, The Oaks residential housing, and the four-star child care center.
“We are extremely pleased to have incoming LSU System President Dr. King Alexander on the LSU Alexandria campus before he officially assumes his role as President July 1,” said Dr. Paul Coreil, interim chancellor for LSU Alexandria. “This will allow him to get to know our campus and its outstanding faculty, staff, and students early in the transition process and give him an opportunity to get better acquainted with the Cenla region.”
Coreil added, “As the LSU system moves forward with restructuring, I believe it is vital to recognize the tremendous human and place-based educational resources we have at LSUA and identify potential areas for better collaboration and linkages with the LSU flagship campus and other institutions that make up the LSU System.”
Dr. Alexander will assume the role of president of the LSU System and chancellor of LSU on July 1. He is currently president of California State University in Long Beach.
Among his focus areas regarding the reorganization of the LSU System are the prioritization of students, research, and public service. He has also stated that LSU and state administration need to work together to increase LSU’s status as a valuable state asset.
Alexander has said that higher education can be a force that creates opportunities and improves the state economy by producing graduates with degrees who will contribute to the Louisiana workforce. One example of this happening is LSU Alexandria’s newly approved bachelor of science in elder care administration, the first degree of its kind in the state.
