Released: 04/19/2013

Anna Heaven Smith, a senior history major at LSU Alexandria, earned 2nd place in the undergraduate division of the W. Darrell Overdyke Student Awards Competition in North Louisiana History for 2013.

Her paper, “Bonnie and Clyde: A Personal and Criminal History,” was written in the fall semester for History 4901 Independent Study research class directed by Dr. Jerry Sanson.

The Overdyke Awards were established in memory of Dr. W. Darrell Overdyke, former professor of history at Centenary College, through the generosity of the late Mrs. Overdyke and her brother, Mr. E. Laurence Walker, of Shreveport.

The annual competition is conducted by the North Louisiana Historical Association. Ms. Smith, a Jonesville resident, will receive her award at the association’s Annual Spring Luncheon in Shreveport on Saturday, April 20. Her manuscript will also be published in the association’s journal, North Louisiana History.
