Generals break single season win record

Released: 03/25/2013

The LSU Alexandria Generals baseball team has swung into action this season, breaking their win record for a single season.

The Generals swept a weekend series against Blue Mountain College, bringing their season record to 25-12. The previous single season win record for the team was 20, set in 2009.

LSUA picked up the first game of the series as Stefan Porche collected his 6th save of the season when he forced Blue Mountain into a game ending double play to win Game 1. The Generals were led by James Sloan and Jay Bell who each had a pair of hits in the ball game. Corey Thomas picked up the win going 4 innings and allowing 2 runs. Hunter Wallace and Stefan Porche pitched the remaining 3 to preserve the win for the Generals.

The Generals were able to take advantage of an outstanding pitching performance by Ryan Waters and a 6 run 7th inning to secure the 10 run rule in game two. The Generals defeated the Toppers by a score of 10-0. Jay Bell, James Sloan, Dylan Edmiston, Randy Frederick, and T.J. Trantham all collected multiple hits in the victory. Ryan Waters threw 7 innings and struck out 4 in his complete game victory.

In Saturday’s game, the Generals were able to capitalize off of 5 Topper errors to produce 12 runs in the high scoring affair. Tanner Olinde, James Sloan, and Jay Bell led the Generals all producing multiple runs and RBI. The Toppers were able to put together a big inning in the 7th by producing 5 runs, but never got the score within a 3 run deficit as the Generals were able to hold off the rally. Ben Myers picked up his first save in the outing as we worked the final two frames.

James Sloan finished the weekend 7-10 with 5 RBI and Jay Bell finished 6-12 with 4 RBI as both led the way for the Generals offense.

The Generals will travel to Texas College on Tuesday for a mid-week double header. They will be back at home on April 2, hosting Loyola University in a mid-week double header.
