LSUA Offers Computer Courses

<p> The Division of Continuing Education at Louisiana State University at Alexandria (LSUA) is offering a number of non-credit computer courses beginning in October. All courses require pre-registration, which includes payment of fees, and meet on the LSUA campus unless otherwise noted. </p><p> Our newest offering this fall is Personal Computer: Preparing for the A+ Certification Exam. This course is your tool to be prepared for the CompTIA A+ certification exams. It is an intensive 20 hour course for the computer enthusiast wishing to achieve industry certification. Basic computer skills is a prerequisite for the course. With A+ certification an individual could qualify for an entry level (6 months experience) computer service technician position, according to experts from companies across the industry. </p><p> The class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25,30 and Nov 1. The fee for the course is $250 plus the text and tool kit. The class will meet at the University Center on England Airpark from 1:30 until 4 p.m. Heath Fitts, instructional technology support specialist for LSUA, will be the instructor for the class. </p><p> Personal Computer: Beginner will be held on Thursdays, Oct. 18 and 25, and Nov. 1 and 8 from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. The fee for the course is $118 plus the text. Participants will become familiar with the basics of Windows 95/98 and gain a working knowledge of the basic parts of the computer. Other topics will include learning the most common software programs and the basics of navigating the Internet including e-mail. </p><p> The Personal Computer: Introduction to Networking course will assist students in understanding networking concepts and technologies related to developing networks. This course will also provide a foundation for pursuing certifications such as the CNE, MCSE, Network+ and CCNA. The course will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, 6 and 8. The class will meet at the University Center Airpark from 2 until 5 p.m. with a fee of $118.00 plus text. </p><p> Personal Computer: Microsoft PowerPoint 2000-Beginner participants will learn the basics of using Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 to create presentations for a variety of audiences.
