Annual luncheon to benefit minority scholarships

The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at Louisiana State University at Alexandria will be held on Monday, Jan. 28 at 12:00 p.m. in the Brumfield Caffey Annex. Tickets are $10 and reservations are required.

The guest speaker is Charles Smith, who, in 26 years as head coach of the Peabody Warhorse basketball team, has led the team to an 823-145 record. That record includes six state championships, 22 district championships, and 15 state tournament appearances.

The MLK luncheon is held annually on the LSU Alexandria campus with proceeds benefitting the Ebony Scholarship Fund. The event is coordinated each year by the campus MLK Committee.

Two scholarships will be awarded during the program including the Ebony Scholarship and the Coughlin Saunders Talented Tenth Scholarship. Lunch will be provided by Outback Steakhouse.
