Released: 03/22/2012

Kyle Krebsbach, a senior English major, at LSU Alexandria, debated a perfect tournament at the Oak Tree Swing IPDA debate tournament hosted at LSUA this past weekend. Krebsbach finished with a perfect 11-0 record in the novice division through seven preliminary rounds and four elimination rounds. Krebsbach was also 5th place novice speaker.

The LSUA debate program hosted 80 novice, varsity, and professional division debaters from 10 colleges and universities in Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas in the recent tournament. Prior to the individual events, LSUA hosted a team IPDA tournament, the first six-round team IPDA tournament to date.

The overall team title went to the University of Arkansas at Monticello debaters who also won the team tourney sweepstakes. Sam Houston State took second while Louisiana College took third place.

LSU Shreveport took first place in the individual debate sweepstakes with UAM taking second place along with the Generals Award given to the team with the highest overall percentage of debate round wins during the weekend.

Of the LSUA debaters, David Humphrey, a senior communication studies major, was a novice division semi-finalist. Tim Landry, an LSUA history graduate and Chancellor’s Award recipient who debated a perfect tournament at LSUA in 2010, was a professional division quarterfinalist and 3rd place speaker. David Doyle, a senior political science major, was tied for 5th place speaker in the varsity division.

Founded in 1997, IPDA (International Public Debate Association) is a fast-growing interscholastic debate association with competitive programs concentrated in the mid-South and expanding nationwide. Its mission is to allow individuals to develop advocacy skills in a forum that promotes appropriate and effective communication. IPDA includes two-person team debate and three divisions of individual debate, including a novice division for new debaters, a varsity division restricted to undergraduate students, and a professional division for alumni, graduate students, and community members.
