LSUA Continuing Education Courses for March

<p> Louisiana State University at Alexandria&acute;s Division of Continuing Education is offering a variety of personal enrichment courses in March. All continuing education classes require pre-registration, which includes fee payment, and meet on the LSUA campus unless otherwise noted. To register or receive more information, contact the Division of Continuing Education at 473-6495. </p><p> The following is a list of offerings beginning in March. </p><p> Basics of Investing-This class begins with the very basics of finances, including examining some of the most common reasons why people fail to meet their investment goals, tips to avoid these traps and rules every investor should know. Other topics include different types of investments and the advantages and disadvantages of each. The course will be held on Thursdays, March 7, 14 ,21 and 28 from 5:30 until 7 p.m. The fee for the course is $25 and Jeff Draughon will be the instructor. </p><p> Landscape Installation and Care-Learn how to implement your own landscape, make informed plant selections, how to prepare the soil and to maintain your investment. This class applies towards the required continuing education for contractors and builders. The session will meet at the University Center at England Airpark on Tuesday and Thursday, March 26 and 28 from 4:30 until 8:30 p.m. The fee for the course is $55 and Darren Green will be the instructor. A pre-requisite of the course "Introduction to Home Landscape Design" is recommended, but not required. </p><p> Preparing for the Mathematics Portion of the ACT Exam-This session will give a general review of the topics covered on the mathematics portion of the ACT Exam including test taking strategies. This session will be offered on Wednesday and Thursday, March 17 and 28 from 4 until 7 p.m. Dr. Thomas Awtry will be the instructor and handouts will be provided. The cost for the course is $38. </p><p> Retirement Living: A Financial Workshop for Retirees-Through this workshop, you will gain a thorough understanding of the financial issues you&acute;ll face today and in the future. You will gain useful information about managing your money to improve your financial well-being. The course will meet on Tuesdays, March 5, 12 and 19 from 9 a.m. until noon. The class will be held at the University Center at England Airpark with instructor Robert L. Harger, Jr. The fee is $55. </p><p> Venus to Mars: Women&acute;s and Men&acute;s Health 2002-This is a workshop for nurses and all health care professionals which will be held on Friday, March 15 from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. The cost is $60 for the general public and $30 for LSUA students and faculty if postmarked by March 1. There will be a $5 late fee for payments after the deadline. Pre-registration is encouraged due to limited seating. </p><p> The program will integrate physical, psychological, and psychosocial aspects of women&acute;s and men&acute;s health. The fee includes registration, lunch, refreshments and processing of continuing education units for nurses. The workshop has been approved by the Louisiana State Nurses Association for seven continuing education units. </p><p> For more information, contact the Division of Continuing Education at (318) 473-6495. </p>
