Lady Generals ranked third in NAIA Division 1 Independent Conference poll

Released: 03/21/2012

The NAIA Division 1 Independent Conference mid-season rankings are out and the LSU Alexandria Lady Generals are ranked third of the 16 teams. The Lady Generals also received six top 25 votes in the coaches’ national poll.

According to head coach Charlie Zeilman, only six of the 16 teams will advance to the conference tournament to be held in Thomasville, GA in May, and the Lady Generals intend to be there.

“We’re shooting for 20 wins, 19 is the most wins our program has ever had,” Zeilman said. “We’ve won 14 of our last 18 games…the girls have done a great job.” The Lady Generals are hoping to keep the momentum going into the second half of the season.

Zielman is in his first year as head coach and is working hard to build the program. “My first year here’s been great,” he said. “It comes with lots of challenges of course… the budget’s always a challenge, but overall the girls have been great. They’ve done a great job.”

The Lady Generals will be at home for the next several games beginning with a doubleheader on Sat., March 24 against University of Houston – Victoria, and then doubleheaders against LSU Eunice on March 28 and Talladega College on March 31.
