LSU Alexandria will hold commencement exercises for 140 graduates on Thursday, Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. at the Riverfront Center in Alexandria. Included in the program are 14 students who completed degree requirements during the summer. Brigadier General Clarence KK Chinn, Commanding General of the JRTC and Ft. Polk, will deliver the commencement address.
“LSU Alexandria is very proud to host Brig. Gen. Chinn as this winter’s Commencement Speaker,” said LSUA Chancellor Dr. David P. Manuel. “He is the consummate leader who cares deeply for his military colleagues and their families and who leads by example. Considering our recent designation as a Military Friendly Campus, Brig. Gen. Chinn was a perfect choice to address our graduates.”
Chinn is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. Throughout his career, he has served in a variety of command and staff positions in Airborne, Air Assault, Light Infantry and Ranger units. Most recently, Chinn served as the Deputy Commanding General (Support) of the 82nd Airborne Division.
Chinn graduated from the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Combined Arms & Services Staff School, the Command and General Staff College, and the Army War College with a master’s degree in Strategic Studies. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Ranger Course, Airborne School, Jumpmaster School, Infantry Mortar Platoon Course, Air Assault School and the Jungle Warfare Training Course.
Among his awards and decorations are the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star with 2 oak leaf clusters, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with five oak leaf clusters, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award with oak leaf cluster, the Valorous Unit Award, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with Bronze Arrowhead with oak leaf cluster.
