Zeilman named softball coach for Lady Generals

Louisiana State University at Alexandria is pleased to announce that Charlie Zeilman, Jr. has joined the coaching staff as the head softball coach for the Lady Generals softball program.

“I am very impressed with Coach Zeilman," said Dan Purvis, LSU Alexandria athletic director. “He is a welcome addition to the LSU Alexandria Generals athletic department. I look forward to seeing him build our softball program over the years to come.”

Zeilman served the past two years as the pitching coach at Americas High School in El Paso, Texas. While at Americas, the Lady Trailblazers compiled an overall record of 69-9, winning back-to-back 1-5A district championships and a Texas Regional Quarter-final Championship in 2011. His pitchers won the El Paso Times player of the year award in 2010 and 2011.

Prior to Americas, Zeilman was the owner and director of Coach Z’s Baseball/Softball Academy in El Paso, Texas from 2006-2008.

Earlier in his career, Zeilman was hired as an assistant baseball coach at Bel Air High School in 1998. After a one year stint as head baseball coach in 1999 at Gadsden High School (Anthony, NM), Zeilman returned to Bel Air where he served for 8 years. Zeilman was a part of three bi-district championships and led his team to the school’s last Texas state playoff appearance in 2005.

Zeilman graduated from Colonie Central High School, located in Albany, New York. While at Colonie Central, Zeilman lettered in football, basketball, baseball and indoor track. He earned All-State honors in football and was selected to the Albany Times Union and Schenectady Gazette All-City teams. He was a wide receiver on the University of Texas at El Paso football team in 1987-88. He attended and played baseball at College of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico from 1993-96.

Zeilman received his B.S. in secondary education from University of the Southwest in 1997.
