Traditions in African Art to open in University Gallery

Traditions in African Art will open in the University Gallery at Louisiana State University at Alexandria with a reception on Tuesday, Nov. 22 from 5-7 p.m. The event is offered free and is open to the public.

Traditions in African Art includes pieces from the Peggy Brian Collection as well as several Shona stone sculptures which were given to the university's permanent collection by Arnold Vernon. The Brian pieces have been collected mostly from Kenya while the Shona sculptures are from the area of Zimbabwe. Brian will be on hand to discuss the items from her collection.

The University Gallery is located in the Student Center near the Campus Bookstore and will be open from noon until 5 p.m. on Nov. 22 and from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Nov. 23 before closing for the Thanksgiving holiday. Traditions in African Art will again be available for viewing weekdays from 10:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. until The exhibit will run through December 2.
