International Education Week activities set at LSU Alexandria

International Education Week will be celebrated on the LSU Alexandria campus Nov. 14-18.

On Monday, Nov. 14 at noon, the campus will welcome Council for International Educational Exchange high school students from Rapides and Avoyelles Parishes for a gumbo luncheon. LSUA Student Government officers and senators, LSUA international faculty, and the LSUA chancellors will participate in welcoming students visiting local high school from all over the world. Students will have time to fellowship and hear a brief lecture on the history of LSU Alexandria.

Tuesday, Nov. 15 activities continue with Jerusalem Greek and Lebanese Café providing free Mediterranean cuisine at 6 p.m. and a dance performance by the Desert Jewels. The meal will be followed by a movie from India titled "Three Idiots" beginning at 7 p.m.

On Wednesday, Nov. 16, LSUA students from Cuba, Cambodia, Mexico, and The Netherlands will add their national flags to the LSUA Flag Display. The ceremony begins at noon sharp. Student Government will host a Forum with Chancellor Manuel immediately following.

On Thursday, Nov. 17 activities will include Sombrero’s Restaurant inviting students to sample Mexican cuisine at 6 p.m. The Multicultural and International Affairs Committee will show La Misma Luna (Under the Same Moon) at 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

The week will conclude with Reverend Charlie's Patent Medicine Band performing in the Magnolia Cafe from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

All events will take place in the Brumfield Caffey Annex on campus. The week is supported by the Chancellor's Office and Student Government.

International Education Week is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. This joint initiative of the US Department of State and the US Department of Education is designed to promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences in the United States.
